OnePlus Reveals its Foldable Smartphone, Keeping an Intriguing Secret
OnePlus has been one of the brands most focused on the early adoption of Android 14. On the day of the official launch of this new version of Android, OnePlus surprised the world with the OnePlus Open through an unboxing that revealed almost all the details of his design. However, the back of the device was kept secret, fueling anticipation around this new foldable smartphone.
The foldable device market continues to grow constantly, with more and more manufacturers joining the trend. While Samsung leads with its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series, other competitors like OPPO and Honor, with its impressive Honor Magic V2 , are offering intriguing alternatives in the market.
Popular YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger unboxed the OnePlus foldable device and had the opportunity to interview Pete Lau, CEO and co-founder of OnePlus, as he explored the details of the new device. Lau highlighted that the OnePlus Open combines the best of OPPO and OnePlus' technological advances in a single mobile device.
The design of the OnePlus Open represents a significant departure from previous OnePlus designs. It features a metal frame with completely flat sides and a form factor that differs even from the OPPO Find N2. In addition, the extremely thin bezels on the front screen stand out, which practically extend to the aforementioned metal frame. This results in a modern and distinctive design that establishes its own identity for the device.
OnePlus has also put an emphasis on the phone's hinge, which is capable of holding a sheet of paper when fully folded. Lau said the company holds around 600 patents related to foldable device technology, and the hinge itself has 35 patents thanks to its innovations in design and materials. The hinge is 37% smaller than the one used on the OPPO Find N2 , resulting in a lighter, more compact and stronger folding device.
In terms of software, OnePlus has worked closely with Google to adapt applications to both the main screen and the external screen of the device, with the aim of offering a fluid and productive experience.
Although the complete operation of the device was not revealed, all the details are expected to be known at the official presentation scheduled for October 19 . The OnePlus Open promises to be an exciting addition to the foldable smartphone market.
